It has been a great start to the new school year which also coincides with my tenth year in the classroom; this is so hard for me to believe. The “back to school days” are some of my favorite because it means cooler temperatures and the Fall sports seasons. It also means the beginning of working toward our goals and objectives for the coming baseball season.
On Wednesday, September 3, 2014, we will have the first of two baseball interest meetings; the other will take place in January. This meeting, held in the auditorium at 345pm, will go over the offseason skill development and conditioning schedules. It is important to note that students MUST HAVE an active physical on file with the athletic department before they can participate in any offseason activities. Students who do not, can find forms in the front office. Also we will discuss the new academic requirements for athletic participation. This school year marks a change to the academic standards which requires students to now earn a 2.0 GPA in their Fall classes to be able to participate in Spring athletics.
I would also like to announce that the program will be hosting the 2nd Annual Jack Britt Baseball Golf Tournament at Gates Four Golf and Country Club on Sunday, October 19, 2014, at 1230pm. This serves as one of our two major fundraisers for the school year. Last year, we had 16 teams participate and 13 hole sponsors. My target goal this year is a minimum of 25 teams and 18 holes sponsors. If you are interested in participating, please print off a copy of the registration (2014 Jack Britt Golf Flyer)located on the website, get a team together, and come support Jack Britt and the baseball program. For only $65.00 per player, you get a meal after the round and have a chance to win a variety of prizes; this is all while playing one of the nicest golf clubs in the entire state.
If you have questions or comments or just want to know how to can help with promoting the program, please contact me at 910.429.2800. I am so looking forward to this coming season. See you at the field!
