On Tuesday, March 17, 2015, the Jack Britt Baseball Team will be holding their 5th Annual Military Appreciation Night as they face the Golden Bulls of E.E. Smith High School. To show our appreciation for the service provided to our country, all active and retired military personnel, with military identification, will be admitted free of charge to the varsity baseball game as well as to the softball and girls' soccer games. Additionally, SFC Matt S. Davidson (graduate of Terry Sanford High School), a Parachute Maintenance Technician and competitor on the Formation Freefall Team for the Golden Knights, with be throwing out the honorary First Pitch at the baseball game. All three of these events will begin at 600pm. Come out and support Jack Britt Athletics and honor our servicemen and women.
Sergeant First Class Matt S. Davidson is a 92R, Parachute Maintenance Technician, serving as a competitor on the Formation Freefall Team for the Golden Knights. Davidson entered the Army in 1992 and after completion of his initial entry training he was assigned to Fort Bragg, N.C. In addition to his other military assignments Davidson’s first tour on the Knights was as a competitor, from 1993 through 2000.
In 2002 Davidson returned to the Knights as a member of the Formation Freefall Team. Since being on the Team Davidson has won many medals including but not limited to: a Gold Medal at the 1996 National Skydiving Competition for 8-way and 20-way, a Gold Medal at the 1997 World Meet for 8-way. In 1998 his team won a Gold Medal at the World Cup for 8-way and Silver Medal at Nationals for 8-way. At the 1999 Nationals his team brought home a Gold Medal for 8-way. Not to be slowed down they also brought home the Silver in both 4-way and 8-way, the gold in 10-way at the 2005 Nationals and the bronze in both 4-way and 10-way at the 2007 Nationals. Most recently winning the Silver Medal in 4-way at the Military World Championships. With over 17,000 jumps to his credit, competition and training is a way of life. In 2010 he and Team took the podium with one Gold and two Silver medals and one Bronze at the U.S. National Skydiving Championships. They brought back Silver from the World Meet in Menzelinsk, Russia.
In 2011 they won four Gold Medals at the US Nationals and one Gold Medal at the World Cup in Saarlouis, Germany. His most recent accomplishments include winning 3 Gold and the overall at the U.S. National Championships 2013. He and his Team brought back Gold from the 2012 World Skydiving Championships in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
